The Youth Climate Education and Fellowship Program 2025 held a successful session on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at UET Lahore. The event gathered 40 youth leaders and climate professionals to discuss the role of youth in climate action and policy advocacy. This program is designed to provide young people with the knowledge and tools needed to engage in climate policy and governance at local and international levels.

Dr. Izzat Cheema opened the session after registration and recitation. He explained the function of global climate organizations such as the UNFCCC and COP and their importance in tackling worldwide climate issues.

Ms. Sabiha Shaheen, Executive Director of Bargad, then led a session on decision-making at international climate forums. She detailed how young people can participate and influence policy through platforms like YOUNGO, LCOY Pakistan, the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, and the ACAP Fund. Ms. Shaheen described how these forums operate and encouraged youth involvement. She also shared information on opportunities for Pakistani youth to join these platforms and access international funding and support. She stressed the need for strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of policy to create meaningful impact.

Following this, participants took part in a practical activity to build advocacy skills. This focused on climate negotiation techniques and youth representation at COP. Discussions covered important themes such as fairness and inclusion in global climate talks. A group activity then allowed participants to identify local strategies for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. This connected theoretical knowledge with practical solutions for Pakistan’s specific challenges.

The event concluded with Youth Fellows sharing their reflections and personal commitments to ongoing climate advocacy.

Professor Dr. Mohsin Kazmi, Chairman of the Department of Chemical, Polymer and Composite Materials Engineering at UET Lahore, New Campus, gave the closing remarks. He reaffirmed the university’s support for youth-led climate initiatives.

As a token of appreciation, a souvenir was presented to Ms. Sabiha Shaheen by Professor Dr. Zaheer Aslam, Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department. This was done on behalf of Transparency International Pakistan and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore in recognition of her contribution to the program.
