Transparency International Pakistan team, led by Mr. Kashif Ali, Executive Director, held a meeting with the leadership of the Sindh Information Commission on Thursday, April 23,2026, at Sindh Information Commission Office, Karachi. The TI Pakistan delegation included Ms. Nasreen Memon, Project Coordinator, and Ms. Fariha Fatima, Programme Associate. The Sindh Information Commission was represented by Mr. Zulfiqar Shaikh, Executive Director, Mr. Muhammad Saleem Khan, Information Commissioner, and Mr. Noor Muhammad Dayo, Information Commissioner.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration for the effective implementation of the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016. It focused on improving proactive disclosure and ensuring timely responses to information requests by public bodies, and highlighted the need to enhance public awareness of citizens’ right to access information.

During the meeting, Mr. Kashif Ali briefed the Sindh Information Commission on Transparency International Pakistan’s work, including advocacy for the implementation of the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016, raising public awareness at the community level on the use of RTI as a powerful social accountability tool, and conducting capacity-building trainings for Public Information Officers (PIOs) to improve compliance, timely responses, and effective information disclosure.

Mr. Muhammad Saleem Khan, Information Commissioner at the Sindh Information Commission, shared that visible progress has been made in the implementation of the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016. He highlighted that the Commission is conducting regular hearings to review and decide on information requests received under the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016.

He further noted that the Commission is actively organizing seminars to raise public awareness. He added that the Commission has also engaged with various government departments to ensure compliance with Section 6 on proactive disclosure, with a focus on timely publication and dissemination of key public information in line with legal requirements under the Act.

Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration for the effective implementation of the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016 and to promote transparency, accountability, and open governance in Sindh. The collaboration will focus on public awareness, capacity building, proactive disclosure of information by public bodies, and strengthening citizens’ right to access information. Both sides also agreed to hold regular consultations to further improve RTI implementation and related processes for better governance in Sindh.
