Carbon Markets Decoded
Carbon markets are becoming an important part of global climate action, but understanding how they work, who benefits, and what safeguards are needed is essential.
Transparency International Pakistan (TI-P) conducted “Carbon Markets Decoded”, the next training in its climate bootcamp series, bringing together a small group of professionals, researchers, and students to unpack the fundamentals of carbon markets and their relevance for Pakistan.
The training was facilitated by Kashif Ali of Transparency International Pakistan and Mr. Syed Bulent Sohail, Managing Partner of Sohail & Partners, LLP, who guided participants through key concepts including carbon credits, Article 6.4, carbon market architecture, methodologies, and monitoring, reporting, and verification systems.
The session further examined the challenges and risks linked to carbon markets including weak governance, lack of equitable benefit sharing mechanisms, community awareness, disclosure of project information, and the need to ensure that emissions-reduction efforts do not overshadow Pakistan’s urgent adaptation needs.
Building on TI Pakistan’s previous Climate Finance Decoded bootcamp, this session highlighted why technical knowledge, transparency and ground-level green skills are critical for making carbon markets fair, credible, and aligned with Pakistan’s climate priorities
