ALAC Rahim Yar Khan
Venue: Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab
Date: May 17, 2025

Transparency International Pakistan (TI Pakistan), in collaboration with a women-led organisation, the Initiative for Peace and Development Project (IPDP), organised a Free Legal Advice Camp in the district of Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab. This free legal camp was organised under TI Pakistan’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) which provides free legal advice to the victims and witnesses of corruption.

A total of 39 community members, including 21 females, participated in the legal camp and sought free legal advice on a wide range of issues such as land and property disputes, domestic violence, inheritance, and matters of local government service delivery. TI Pakistan arranged two separate lawyers, one for male and the other for female participants. Advocate Ms Shaheen Akhtar explained legal ways for female attendees, whereas Advocate Mr Riaz Kanju offered professional advice to male members.

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, and subsequently, Ms. Rukhsana Mubarak, Executive Director of IPDP, addressed the participants and explained the challenges faced by people from underprivileged communities. She noted how the lack of access to legal resources and limited awareness of rights prevent vulnerable individuals from seeking justice. She also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts like free legal advice camps in addressing those challenges and empowering people at the grassroots level.

Mr. Saad Aalam Angaria, Assistant Project Coordinator at TI Pakistan, provided an overview of the organisation’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC). He explained that the purpose of ALAC and its Free Legal Advice Camps is to ensure that legal services are accessible to those who need them most, particularly individuals in rural and underserved areas. These camps, he said, aim to take legal services to the doorsteps of people who are often excluded from the formal legal system due to financial or social difficulties.

Mr. Saad further elaborated that TI Pakistan conducts similar legal camps across Pakistan to promote legal empowerment, transparency, and accountability. By educating citizens about their legal rights and equipping them with the tools to navigate legal systems, TI Pakistan seeks to strengthen the rule of law and support communities in their fight against injustice.

Participants appreciated the opportunity to receive legal advice without cost and expressed gratitude for the support provided by TI Pakistan. They also noted that such initiatives address immediate legal concerns and help build confidence among individuals to pursue justice through legal channels.
