Workshop on Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013 – District Chiniot

In order to aware citizens about access to information laws, Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with Shaheen Welfare Society organized a workshop on Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013, in district Chiniot, Punjab. The session was attended by 32 participants including journalist, lawyers, civil society members and common citizens. Deputy Director Social Welfare Farukh Rizwan also attended the workshop. TI Pakistan’s trainer Ashfaque Ahmed conducted the session and provided basic information about the law, including its history, and need for transparency and accountability. The participants were also told about the procedure for registering an RTI request, how to follow up and details of the complaint mechanism. They learned how to obtain information from public bodies and how it can be used to fight corruption. In the end, a Q&A session was also held. The session was widely covered in the local print media.
