Mobile ALAC – Mandi Faizabad, District Nankana

27th January 2019

TI Pakistan in collaboration with Society for Education and Development (SED) organized a free legal advice camp (Mobile ALAC) for the citizens of Mandi Faizabad, District Nankana. A total of 46 complainants including 4 females registered their complaints. Most of the complaints were against the rice Mills in the district as the dust coming out of rice mills and untreated rice water being dumped in the surrounding area is very hazardous for the citizens. No action has been taken by the district administration and the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency on their complaints. Other issues were regarding illegal encroachment on the service roads by shopkeepers, and poor state of cleanliness in the area. Advocate Muhammad Aslam and Advocate Muhammad Jamil gave free legal advice to the complainants. TI Pakistan’s Project Coordinator was present at the camp. The lawyers offered to file a petition in the High Court against the environmental complaints on behalf of the citizens. The event was covered in the local press.
