Citizens meeting with Local Govt. representatives in District Badin - Badin Press Club

The role of Local Government is crucial in solving citizens’ basic problems and improving their daily life. On June 25, 2019 Transparency International in collaboration with HAPE development and Welfare Association organized a meeting between Local Govt. representatives and citizens in Press Club, District Badin. A total of 27 participants incluing 1 female participated in the session. One this occasion, member District Council Abdul Rehman Baloch, Chairman Town Committee Tando Bagho Khan Sahab Jamali, member District Council Sajida Talpur, Chairman Union Council Lawari Shareef Mir Anwaar Talpur identified the work done in their respective constituencies. They blamed federal government for not avoiding Sindh province in providing enough development funds. The main issues of Badin are the shortage of water and poor drainage system. The agriculture lands are also badly hit by the shortage or poor management of water supply. The issue has been avoided by provincial government. Transparency International Pakistan representative shared a case study of providing water supply due to the efforts of TI Pakistan in of the village of Badin. The audience raised questions about water supply issues and drainage problems. They also questioned why local government has not arranged any sports festival in the Badin. In reply to an audience question, the LG representative told that no corruption case has been registered against any LG member so far. The event was also covered in the local newspapers.
