Workshop on Balochistan Freedom of Information Act 2005

Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with Welfare Association for New Generation (WANG) organized a workshop on Balochistan Freedom of Information Act 2005, in district Lasbella, Balochistan. The session was attended by journalist, lecturers, students and social workers. The number of participants were 30 including 8 were women. TI Pakistan’s trainer Ashfaque Ahmed conducted the session. He provided basic information about the law, highlighted its shortcoming which hamper access to information right given by the Constitution of Pakistan through Article 19A. The participants learned how information is obtained under existing Balochistan FOI Act 2005, and discussed issues of transparency and accountability in the province which can be improved if public information is easily available to citizens. Along with the comparative role of Office of Mohtasib and Information Commission, a case study of KPK RTI law was also discussed which helped the participants to know about the dynamics of effective RTI laws in the country. In the end, a Q&A session was also held. The session was also covered in local print media.
