Strengthening Anti-Corruption Laws and Mechanism

Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with SAIBAN organized a meeting in Bahwalnagar with other civil society organizations. The purpose was to discuss ways to start efforts for the strengthening Anti-Corruption laws such as RTI and to improve transparency and accountability in government functionalities. The meeting which was attended by the representatives of SAP Pakistan, SPO, Aurat Foundation, Al Fateh Development Organization, Bahawalnagar Welfare Society, LSO Pir Sikandar, Local Support Organization Swai wala, Innovative Development Strategies (IDS), Anjuman e Samajhi Behbood, Anjuman e Falah e Niswa, Sir Syed Welfare Society, Al Badar Welfare Organization, Ehsas Educational Development Society, Maa Welfare Organization, Pakpattan Development Organization, Atta Welfare Society, Human Welfare Organization, Koshish Foundation, Social Welfare and Community Development Society. The participants agreed to work in collaboration with each other specially for the promotion and implementation of RTI laws in Punjab. Mr Ashfaque Ahmed from TI Pakistan told the participants that strong RTI laws are present in the province and Information Commission Punjab is effectively working. Mr. Zakir from SAP discussed what does it mean by ‘civil Society’. He told that political parties are the strongest segments of civil society organizations. NGOs and other organizations are included in civil society definition. Mr. Tahir Shah from SAIBAN told the challenges faced by the NGOs in Bahawalnagar and adjacent districts. He also told about the setting up a Complaint Center in the district and requested other organizations to remain connected. He said our struggle need patience and determination if we are hoping for change and betterment. Mr. Sher Khan Kitchi from Community Development Society agreed to start awareness session regarding RTI at grass root level. Representatives of other organizations also show their commitments with this network and requested TI Pakistan to organize a follow up session as well.
